KJV reference tool

Multiple Bible Verse Lookup (KJV)

Paste a list of Bible references. Get the KJV text in your original order, keep repeated references, and see which entries need attention.

One entry per line, or separate entries with semicolons. Use a single verse or a range within one chapter.

Limits: 100 nonempty entries, 1,000 returned verse appearances, and 20,000 input characters. Repeats count toward the verse limit. A request over any limit is refused as a whole.

How to look up your list

  1. Enter each reference on a new line, or use semicolons. Blank lines and empty segments between semicolons are ignored.
  2. Select Look up verses. The KJV text downloads when you run your first lookup; later lookups on this page reuse it.
  3. Check each status, fix any entries that need attention, then copy the results. Copied text includes every entry, its original reference, its status, and all four totals.

The tool reads the bundled KJV text in your browser. Your reference list is not sent to a lookup service or added to the page URL.

Supported reference syntax

Use a book name, chapter, colon, and verse: John 3:16. For a range in the same chapter, use a hyphen: 1 Cor 13:4-7. Book names and the accepted aliases below are case-insensitive.

Whole chapters, comma lists such as John 3:16,18, cross-chapter ranges such as John 3:16-4:2, and prose are unsupported. Put separate verses on separate lines. Unknown book names are also unsupported.

Jo is ambiguous: it could mean Job, Joel, John, Jonah, or Joshua. Choose a full name. The tool never guesses a book from a partial name.

Accepted book names and aliases

Use a full name in the first column or an exact alias in the second. For example, Jn means John, 1 Cor and 1Cor mean 1 Corinthians, Phil means Philippians, and Philem means Philemon.

Example: five entries, all accounted for

Every nonempty entry gets exactly one status. The original order and repeated references are preserved.

EntryReference as typedStatusResult
1John 3:16ok1 verse
21 Cor 13:4-7ok4 verses
3John 3:999invalidJohn 3 has no verse 999
4Jo 1:1ambiguousChoose a complete book name
5John 3:16ok1 verse; the repeat is kept

5 = 3 + 1 + 1 + 0: five submitted = three ok + one invalid + one ambiguous + zero unsupported. The three ok entries return six verse appearances, because the repeated John 3:16 counts twice.

ok
The reference resolves to the KJV text shown.
invalid
The book is recognized, but the chapter or verse does not exist, or the range is reversed.
ambiguous
The book token can refer to more than one book. Choose a complete name.
unsupported
The format is outside the supported syntax, or the book name is unknown.

A list with any status other than ok is marked incomplete, even if some verses can be returned. If the entire request exceeds a limit, it is refused without partial results or totals.

Text source and context

This tool uses TrustBible’s bundled King James Version (KJV) corpus, imported from aruljohn/Bible-kjv on September 6, 2026. The returned text is copied directly from that corpus. Its verse text has no italic markup for supplied words.

Checking a reference does not explain its meaning. Read the surrounding chapter before using a verse in a study or quotation.
