How the plan works

Read whole chapters in canonical order. First we calculate the reading days needed. Finish-date and minutes goals balance cumulative reading time, reserving at least one chapter for every remaining day. Chapter goals spread the chapter count evenly, with daily counts differing by at most one. Weekday plans skip weekends.

For a minutes or chapters goal, we divide the total by your daily target and round up to get the number of days. We then distribute whole chapters evenly by count for chapter goals, or by reading time for minutes goals. A minutes goal is not a daily cap. Silent-reading estimates exclude prayer, notes and study time.

KJV timing uses 238 words per minute. CUV Chinese timing uses 390 characters per minute. Both draw on Brysbaert’s 2019 review: the Chinese rate is our conversion of Table 5’s 260 word-units per minute × 1.5 characters per word, not a character rate printed in that table. Your pace may differ. Read the study.

Days to read the whole Bible at a steady pace

Reading days use the same whole-chapter partition function as the tool. Chapter goals distribute chapters evenly, with daily counts differing by at most one. Weekday-only plans take more calendar days.

Questions about your plan

How many chapters a day to read the Bible in a year?

1,189 chapters over 365 days averages 3.3 chapters per day: about 9.1 minutes in KJV or 6.5 minutes in CUV Chinese. This tool balances whole chapters by time, so the chapter count varies each day.

How can I read the Bible in 90 days?

Reading every day for 90 days averages 13.2 chapters a day: about 36.9 minutes in KJV or 26.5 minutes in CUV Chinese. Set the finish date to 89 days after your start date.

How can I read the Bible in 6 months?

Reading every day for 182 days averages 6.5 chapters a day: about 18.2 minutes in KJV or 13.1 minutes in CUV Chinese. Six months is estimated here as 182 days; use a finish date for your exact calendar months.

How can I read the Bible in 2 years?

Reading every day for 730 days averages 1.6 chapters a day: about 4.5 minutes in KJV or 3.3 minutes in CUV Chinese. Two years is estimated here as 730 days; use a finish date to account for leap years.

How long does the Bible take at 15 minutes a day?

KJV takes 222 reading days and CUV Chinese takes 159. Fifteen minutes is an average target, not a hard daily limit; longer chapters can make a day exceed it.

How many chapters will each day contain in chapters mode?

We divide the chapter count by your daily target and round up to get the reading days. We then spread chapters evenly, so daily counts are equal or differ by one. For example, 3 chapters a day gives 397 days with 2 or 3 chapters each. Daily minutes still come from the raw word or character counts.

Why are some days longer?

Chapters vary in length, and this tool never splits one across days. Psalm 119 alone is about 10.2 minutes in KJV. After reserving at least one chapter per day, the tool chooses the nearest chapter boundary.
