Your source and verse

The example uses the online King James Bible, 2017, based on the 1769 edition. Replace those details when you use a different edition.

1. The edition you used

Use the title of the specific edition, not just a translation abbreviation.

Use the edition's date, not an unrelated website copyright year.

Enter only a documented earlier year for this edition. Leave it empty if unknown.

Use the full http:// or https:// address of the edition you consulted.

2. One verse

Use chapter 1 for Jude and other single-chapter books. This tool does not format ranges, whole chapters or Apocrypha. For those, consult the official APA guidance.

Edition details are supplied by you; this tool does not verify publication records.

What APA 7 needs for a Bible citation

Name the specific edition and its publication year. For an online edition, include the website or publisher and URL. A known original year appears in a republication note and before the edition year in the in-text citation.

Use the Bible's book, chapter and verse instead of a page number. Italicize the edition title. The dates below belong to this particular example; they are not defaults for every KJV Bible.

What the passage check means

The preview uses TrustBible's bundled KJV text: 66 books and 31,102 verses, imported from aruljohn/Bible-kjv on September 6, 2026. It is the same corpus used by the reader, without italic markup for supplied words. A reference check is not a check of your quotation or publication details. Compare the wording with the edition you actually cite.

This tool formats a single verse of the biblical text. It does not cite study-Bible notes or commentary, which can require editors and page numbers. It does not provide MLA or Chicago formats.
